Visit with Grandparents Wade and a Visit from Grandma 'Nosky and Papa

Lauren's Week-long Trip in PA...Without Mommy!
  • Lauren didn't want to talk to me on the phone every day, and conversations lasting longer than 4 minutes were off limits!
  • She went to a church picnic, had a cook-out with friends, went swimming, chalked with Grandma, went to a festival.
  • Went to church 2 times.
  • Was a pretty darn good girl.
  • Spent several evenings hanging out with her grandparents Bernosky!
  • Has developed a highly annoying habit of wanting to punch or hang on Paul, Uncle Josh, and poor Logan...

Visit from Grandparents Bernosky in NC
Grandma 'Nosky is short for Bernosky, in case you wondered...
Dad celebrated his 57th birthday on July 19.  Happy Birthday, Papa!!!
As all of our birthdays are in July and August, we celebrated all birthdays this weekend.  As Lauren has grown (and changed), Mom asked me if Lauren had any requests for presents.  Lauren had asked for a Jake and the Neverland Pirates play set. So I expected that answer.  The reply was, "I want Barbies!"  I nearly fell over!  My baby is moving out of preschool toys to big girl toys!  As a result...
A new mermaid Barbie, a super cool Barbie coup, and 6 new outfits!  WOW!  Lauren has spent HOURS playing!  Including adding my old Barbies to hers!

Then she pulled out her Play-Doh and we made culinary masterpieces!  Note our beautiful cupcakes!
We had a great visit with my parents.  Lauren was really affectionate, happy (most of the time), and WIDE open!  The parents laughed at her, a LOT.
I cannot believe how quickly our visit went.  What surprises me the most, though, is how few PICTURES I took!  These 5 pictures are all I have taken since we came back from PA!
We (Lauren, Paul, and I) are preparing Lauren for kindergarten!  She is totally thrilled to be going.  We have been getting school supplies prepared to send in at open house.  We found out her teacher's name (Mrs. Jones).  And we have her after school and my workdays planned with her daycare. Her backpack was purchased Saturday.  All we have left to do is find her 1st day of school outfit, get to her school, and get a picture to post!

Mom's Surprise 60th Birthday Party!!

Back last summer, Dad and I started preliminary plans for Mom's surprise 60th birthday party!  We held it on July 7.
One surprise--Josh, Shelly, and Logan drove up all day Friday the 6th.  We called the parents to say Paul, Lauren, and I would be stopping in.  When the knock on the parents' door came, SURPRISE!!  Josh, Shelly, and Logan!  (I heard that the parents were a bit speechless!!)
Logan and Lauren with Mom's cake!
 SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 Mom and Aunt Dolly
 Friends
 Jacob and Lauren
 Uncle Cy, Ron, Tony
Holy moly!  Sandy, Steph's mom, Steph, Chrissy, Uncle Cy
 Deanna, Mom, and Dad!
 Mom, Paula, Aunt Dolly
 Bimber, Mom, Josh, Shelly
Jacob and Lauren having "blower" wars!  It was hysterical to watch them!
Aunt Dawn got mom a hulahoop and had all family members try it out.  Uncle Cy did as well...in slow motion!  What a riot!
The Vettenburg Sisters: Aunt Dolly, Mom, Aunt Dawn, Aunt Donna
While Mom had NO IDEA that we had planned a party for her, WE had NO IDEA that Aunt Dawn had conspired with Aunt Donna (who lives in NC) to make the party!  So surprise party plus the surprise of my brother and his family plus Aunt Donna showing up yielded a PERFECT surprise party for Mom.

Happy 60th, Mom!!  Love you!!

Our Week-Long Trip to PA

June 30: Happy 39th anniversary, Kay and Charlie!
We left for PA on June 30.  Little did we know that the state of WV had had horrific storms that knocked out electricity and water.  Route 19 was creepy.  No businesses were open, no stoplights were working, cars were lined up bumper to bumper at gas stations waiting to pump gas.  Sadly, I broke my no-Coke streak (6 days!) due to the stress of driving.
However, our neighbors were heading north to Niagra Falls and stayed with us in PA for a night!  See David and Tracy enjoying hot dogs by a PA fire.
Leah took her first ever 4-wheeler ride and LOVED it!
July 1-Lauren HAD to ride, too.  What a poser!

And then the work began!  Charlie wanted us to replace the front door of their house.  It was a LOT more work than either anticipated.  Lauren and Paul enjoyed riding behind the tractor with the new door!
 No door!
Seriously...people kept popping in while the guys tried to work!  Uncle Dennis, Paul, Charlie...
We went to Uncle Luke's new house which is conveniently located next to the gun range!  So Papa took his grandbaby shooting.
Lauren has a little bit of a trigger finger.  Bangbangbang!  "Daddy, why did it stop?"  "Honey, you shot all of the bullets!"  "Oh...can I shoot some more?"

Mom and Lauren enjoyed looking at pictures of family, Mom as a young girl, Lauren as a baby.
 Greetings from Pennsylvania!
So here was the SECOND project...the back room.  Back when Charlie bought the house in 1970-something, this room housed the goats.  Yes, the GOATS.  They did work to it, but after 39 years of living in the house with dull paneling, Kay was ready for a change!!
Then we had to celebrate the 4th!  Happy Birthday, America!
At the Blue Canoe in Titusville (discovery of oil).  Lauren took a short nap and was not ready to wake up.
 Ta-Da!!  The new room!
 Chalking with Great Grandma Williams!
They worked on making a beautiful butterfly.
Grandpa Wade pushing Lauren on the swing at Uncle Luke's new house.
My friend, Austin!  Was great seeing him!!
The final installation of the goat room!  Looks good, right?

Logan and Lauren riding the four-wheeler!
 Logan shooting
We had a short time and felt like we had little time to do all we wanted.  But we had fun and loved seeing everyone!  While we were up, we saw a few deer, an enormous raccoon, cows and more cows, and a BIG BLACK BEAR that ran across the field at 7:30 Saturday morning!  Can you believe it?

Oak Island

Tracy sent me a text asking if I wanted a quick trip to the beach Friday, June 22 at 10:30.  Of course, I said YES.  We left at 2:00!

 Lauren LOVES the ocean!!

June 23--We went to Southport to ride the ferry to Wilmington.  Lauren and I had ridden on a ferry before, but we had not with our car!
